Purpose of the research – development of drought-resistant soybean cultivars with high protein content in seeds under the environment of the South of Ukraine. Methods of research: field, laboratory, statistic calculations, hybridization, phonological observations, biochemical analysis. Theoretical and practical results. Several drought- resistant high-protein varieties were determined among released cultivars and collection genotypes. The identified well-adapted genotypes are recommended to be involved in breeding programmes. Some of the genotypes have high content of both protein and oil in the seeds. Several selection lines originated from crosses or mutations with protein content of 42-43% are being tested during last years. The analyzed varieties differ in their electrophoresis spectrum of albumins and globulins. General protein content was not connected with the content of its fractions. Polymorphism of albumins can be a marker of genotype as it does not depend on the year or the environment. Different hybrid combinations have not equal character of inheritance of 7S and 11S globulins. Two cultivars, Ariadna and Orfei, with high seed protein content were passed to the state testing. The cultivar Ariadna was registered in the State register of Ukraine. Two high-protein soybean lines were registered in the National centre of plant genetic resources of Ukraine: №317/11 (Evans/ L 11-41 /Grant, certificate №915 UD0202463) и №206/11 (Iowa / Аrkadiya odeska, certificate №907 UD0202462). The both lines are characterized with high seed productivity and adaptability to drought. The scientific newness. The new high protein varieties exceed national standards in protein content for about 1.5-2.5%. The new breeding material has about 42-44% of protein in seeds. The effect of introduction. Growing the new soybean varieties will increase the yield for about 25% in average. Seed protein will be increased for about 1.5-2.5% that will result in 19-65 extra kilograms of protein per ha. Area of using. Collective farms and farms in the Steppe and Forest-Steppe zones of Ukraine.
