The purpose of research is the development of scientific and methodological foundations of marker assisted selection of sunflower genotypes with certain genes Pl, which control resistance to downy mildew. The molecular genetics methods were used. The theoretical result consists of evidence of the need for verification of markers proposed in the scientific papers, as well as the need for artificial pollination in programs of the introgression of resistance genes. Marker alleles to PlARG, Pl13 were identified. It is proposed to use a markers to identify the samples from the hybrid populations. Races composition of the population of downy mildew in the south of Ukraine was definited. It is shown the possibility of DNA markers using for pathogen diagnostics and improved methods of testing the sunflower resistance to downy mildew. For the first time it was identified markers of resistance genes PlARG, Pl13 in the genetic matherial, which is used in sunflower breeding programs in Ukraine. Implementation of the proposed markers in sunflower breeding and seed production will reduce the time of creation a new lines and hybrids with resistances to aggressive races of downy mildew.
