Research subject: tool alloys structure formation processes depending on their chemical compound, heat treatment and working conditions. Purpose of the investigation: updating of the cemented carbides based on the high-melting and transition metals in order to increase their wear resistance, to research structure formation mechanisms depending and to investigate the capability if heat treatment. Materials structure research provided via optical metallography methods, quantitative metallography methods, scanning electron microscopy, microspectrum analysis, x-ray phase analysis. Mechanical properties were analyzed via standard testing methods such as a three-point bending, impact testing and hardness measuring. In the present work the important task of the cemented carbides based on the high-melting and transition metals with high wear resistance updating was solved. The new alloys with metastable nickel - titanium binder and titanium carbides were developed. The structure and phase composition of TiC-Ni-Ti and TiC-Ni-Fe powder alloys, which were produced via controlled hot vacuum pressing, was ascertained. The recommended work temperature conditions for these alloys were determined. It was shown that exceeding of the optimal temperature caused the Ni4Ti3 and Ni3Ti precipitations in the metastable matrix what decreased the ductility and service durability (in comparison with as-sintered materials) of the tools made from these alloys. The macroheterogeneous composite material 'cast iron - cemented carbide' was developed for the first time in Ukraine. This wear-proof composite was created from scrap material via liquid-phase sintering.
