The primary goal of the study is to reveal the evolutionary and genetic regularities observed within certain groups of species, especially in cases of changes occurring today due to human impact. The first stage of the study has accomplished a monitoring investigation of the selected species. In the second stage experimental and field studies have been carried out. This has involved traditional zoological methods (morphometrics, karyology, statistical analysis), methods of biochemical and molecular genetics, imitational modelling, geometric morphometry, species niche and distribution modelling based on GIS. Results of the study show the presence of directional genetic changes which have taken place only recently and have revealed the appearance of novel ployploid and other genetically modified organisms, alteration of types of polymorphism, adaptation of invasive species to new environmental conditions.
