The optimum composition of the ceramic is Al2O3 - 15 % ZrO2 (Y2O3), it is characterized by the highest properties: relative density ? 99,0 %, bending strength of 550 MPa, fracture toughness of 7,2 MPao м0,5, hardness of 16,8 GPa. The microstructure study of the obtained samples is shown that a uniform distribution of finely dispersed additives of ZrO2-Y2O3 and ZrO2-MgO in the alumina matrix reduces the grain growth of Al2O3 during sintering of ceramics and allows to create dense, crystalline structure, which determines the increase of ceramic properties. On the basis of the conducted researches a pilot batch of protective ceramic containers with lids was manufactured for safe storage of spent radiation sources on DSP "Kharkiv DMSC".
