The study identifies a range of scientific problems of the functioning of language units in spoken and written Russian speech, marks ways to optimize their study in terms of dominance of anthropocentric scientific paradigm. To this end, we developed and tested a complex methodology that combines methods of synchronic and diachronic, cognitive and social linguistics. Areas of influence of mental and social development of human activities on the phonetic, lexical, grammatical, stylistic and other linguistic units have been identified here. We have determined a number of social and cognitive patterns, trends and characteristics of synchronic and diachronic functioning of the various segments of the Russian language. Precedent units have been distinguished and characterized as a specific group of language units; special attention is paid to logoepisteme and meme. Units of creative language level were combined into a single functional group too. The results of research are introduced in 1 dictionary, 6 thesis (1 grand PhD and 5 PhD), 25 textbooks, manuals and guides, 16 special courses, 15 main disciplines on specialty "Language and Literature (Russian)". The results of the analysis are reflected in 392 scientific articles and more than 70 master’s, specialist’s and bachelor’s qualification works. Projected assumptions about the development of the object of research are the search of patterns of the functioning of the Russian language units in different lingual and cultural spaces.
