Research Purpose - formation and maintenance of the National Bank of Cereals to provide breeding of new varieties and hybrids crops with starting material and to preserve the gene pool for future generations. Research Methods - introduction; evaluation of accessions by field, laboratory and other methods; morphological and biochemical identification; long-term storage; creation of an information system on the gene pool. Theoretical and Practical Results. A method of forming a spring barley collection by genetic resistance to diseases was developed. The method describes formation stages of a spring barley genetic collection of the National Centre for Plant Genetic Resources of the Plant Production Institute nd. a VYa Yuriev; types of resistance to pathogens were characterized; the genetic nature of spring barley resistance to pathogens, namely powdery mildew, loose smut, dwarf leaf rust, and rhynchosporium, was covered; methods for identifying genes responsible for resistance to pathogens and a formation sequence of genetic collections of spring barley by resistance to diseases were described; 27 genes and 86 gene groups responsible for resistance to diseases are particularized. The technique is designed for researchers and professionals of breeding and research institutions. Two collections of by genetic resistance to diseases (soft winter wheat and barley); core collections of rare wheat species; 11 trait collections based on distinguishing features (winter and spring triticale, soft winter wheat), on grain quality (soft winter wheat), on economic features (barley, soft winter wheat, soft spring wheat, winter triticale, winter rye, hard spring wheat, hard winter wheat); a special trait collection of winter rye by winter hardiness were formed and registered. Patent for utility model No 77445 dd 02.11.2013 "Method of Creating Industrial Varieties of Hexaploid Homologues of Durum Wheat and Emmer" was received. Copyright registration certificate on product No 47 294 dd 01.21.2013 for the trait database of valuable economic and morphological traits of the wheat gene pool accessions. 367 sources of valuable economic traits of spiked cereals were highlighted: of winter hardiness in winter crops, disease resistance, early ripeness, high productivity and grain quality, easy threshing. Based on the collection of cereal accessions, spring triticale varieties 'Darkhliba Kharkivskyy' and 'Obereh Kharkivskyy', soft spring wheat variety 'Panianka' (Plant Production Institute nd. a VYa Yuriev), spring barley varieties 'Vytrazh', 'Kozyr', 'Skarb', "revansh', 'Modern', 'Alegro', 'Smaragd', cultivated emmer varieties 'Golikovskaya', 'Romanovskaya' were created and recorded in the State Register of Varieties of Ukraine. Based on the collection of cereal accessions, soft winter wheat variety 'Vygadka', spring triticale varieties 'Vzlit Kharkivskyy', 'Pidzymok Kharkivskyy', spring barley varieties 'Veles', 'Pan', winter triticale variety 'Donets' were created and transferred to the state variety trials. The study results were published in 101 scientific works. Scope of Application: breeding and research institutions, education institutions. Implementation of the theoretical and practical results gives a possibility of targeted selection of starting material for use in breeding, research and educational programs and enables intensifying breeding process, reducing time of variety creation by 3-5 years and improving their quality parameters.
