Study Objective: To create new source material for breeding varieties and hybrids, to explore previously created hybrid s, to develop and improve methods of breeding varieties and hybrids and production of seeds at all breeding stages. Study Methods: the main breeding method adopted by the Institute is multi-stage hybridization using donor of valuable economic features followed by individual-family selection factored in combining ability. Breeding is only based short stemness. The optimal plant height is 100-130 cm. To create such varieties and hybrids, donors of short stemness with polygenic recessive and dominant monogenic control of the trait are used. Transfer of short stemness and other valuable features is accomplished by saturating crosses followed by homozygotization and selection. In 2011 - 2015, new source material was created and investigated. Valuable high-yielding lines 95 - 202 ms; 94 - 2098 ms; 97 - 956 ms; 96 - 4027 ms; 01 - 1201 zs; 262 zs were obtained. Winter rye varieties 'Napoleon', 'Kalypso', F1 hybrids 'Yupiter', 'Saturn', 'Neptun' and parental component l.063491V were created and submitted to the state variety trials. Guidelines "Cultivation of Hybrid Winter Rye Seeds" were developed. A collection of lines-sterility fixers was transferred to the NCPGRU. Winter rye variety 'Stoir', rye F1 hybrid 'Harley', parental components 'Koroleva', 'Kharkovchanka', l. 932 073V, l. 961 358, l. 120 337 B, parental component 'Dikhar' were entered in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine. A collection of 15 lines- sterility fixers was registered in the NCPGRU.
