Under favourable structural-tectonic, lithological, facial and hydro-geochemical conditions they could be the zones of hydrocarbon deposits forming. Hydro-geochemical features of underground water of the gas fields in the region were researched, prospective criteria of availability of the gas deposits and genesis of reservoir waters were determined. Using the method of baroosmos analysis of hydrogeological conditions the time intervals and mechanisms of formation and preservation of the gas fields of Lviv depression were studied. It was found that existence of the gas deposits in Lviv depression depends not only on gas generation intensity at great depths, but also on traps tightness and it explains why the most prospective structures on this territory with obvious signs of gas and oil content are empty. It was found that hydrogeobaric field of Lviv depression compared to the same of Outer zone of Carpathian depression showed much lower intensity due to weak expression of elision and lack of sustained aquicludes. Higher values of hydrogeobaric intensity, the presence of a dense network of disjunctive faults and gas fields presence within the north-western part of Lviv depression, define it as the most promising oil and gas bearing region. Ecological and geochemical characteristics of groundwaters of the active water exchange zone, surface waters, bottom sediments and soils of the main river basins of the territory of Lviv depression were investigated.
