The subject matter is the substance, directions and forms of democratic values’ implementation, as well the solving the problems of national state building in Ukraine in the 20th – 21st c. The main goal of the work is to find out the prerequisites, substance, objectives, nature, directions and forms of the establishing of democracy as a system of government, as well as to research the mechanisms to solve the problem of national state building in Ukraine during the 20th – 21st c. We use the relevant sources for the goal attainment, and take into account the latest achievements of humanities and social sciences. We embrace different views of the experts of the Ukrainian history. The project is aimed at solving the following purposes: - to study, systematize and analyze available historiographic works, to clarify the state of development of the research topic, as well to define the main stages and trends in its study in the 20th – 21st c.; - to form a representative set of the sources; - to reveal the stages and characteristics of the national state building in Ukraine in the 20th – 21st c.; - to develop theoretical and methodological basis of the issue “Ukraine in the 20th – 21st c.: democratic values’ implementation, solving the national and state building problems”; - to identify the characteristics of the demographic, social and economic development of Ukraine in the 20th – early 21st c. - to highlight the experience and lessons of the state building, social, political, cultural and educational processes during the period of the Ukrainian national democratic revolution of 1917-1921; - to analyze the social and political processes in Ukraine during the interwar period (policy of “war communism”, the NEP, collectivization, Ukrainization, exterminations by hunger, repressions etc.), their influence on the spiritual and moral state of the society and the person; - to identify the social and political foundations in the program documents of the Ukrainian anti-Soviet forces in exile; - to explore the heritage of the totalitarian era and to retrace the destructive tendencies of the post-totalitarian mentality in the formation of the Ukrainians’ national consciousness. Research methods The research project is based on critical analysis that enables to rethink the main achievements of the previous generations of scholars. A system approach let us summarize the changes in the development of Ukraine, as well determine the impact of cultural values, generally accepted, and all sorts of norms on the social and political development. We are going to use in the research both general scientific and special methods of scientific cognition. There are the following methods: systematic, analysis and synthesis, induction, deduction, comparative, chronological, situational, retrospective, biographical, logical, and the following principles: the unity of knowledge and self-knowledge, creation and self-creation; unity of man and nature; unity of material and spiritual components in the life of man; differentiation and integration of knowledge etc. A multipurpose use the above-mentioned methods and principles helps to solve the problem and achieve the goal of research. Novelty The novelty of the project consists in the revealing the civil, political, social and economic development of Ukraine in the 20th – early 21st c.., including the study of the characteristics of national state building and establishing the democratic values, taking into account Ukraine-centered and the statist concepts and processes. Guaranties of Ukraine’s national interests, particularly the solving Ukrainian national security’s problem, require a substantial renewal in accordance with an external and an internal situation. Unlike other authors (groups of authors) this project aims to explore and highlight the role of the Ukrainian (Ukrainian-centered) views on the state building and the place in it a titular (Ukrainian) nation. It is studied not only in the political aspect, but also in social, civil, economic, moral and spiritual ones. The project authors for the first time will show the succession, mutual relationship and continuity not only the state structures, but also social, political, national and static thought of the Ukrainians of different generations during various periods of the Ukrainian history in the 20th – early 21st c. In addition, for the first time the project will comprehensively analyze and highlight the concepts of state models, as well social and economic order in the models, produced by non-Soviet political forces and intellectuals in the absence of national statehood. The project will research also the impact of these concepts the on modern social and political thought and political development of Ukraine. The idea of the role and place of political science direction and historical one in Ukrainian Studies in the system of national and patriotic education, national security and the formation of the Ukrainian-centered statehood of Ukraine in new geopolitical conditions, as well as an enhance the positive image of Ukraine and its impact in the world, will be conceptualized for the first time on the basis of the analysis of the previous periods’ statist views and the experience of contemporary processes. The project uses new original ideas and conceptual approaches to interpretation of specific issues of national state building.
