Research objects - adsorbents - natural and modified layer silicates; modifiers - cationic surface-active substances and cationic polyelectrolytes; adsorbates - water, methanol, humic acids . Methods of research - quantum chemistry, molecular statistics, photocolorimetry, adsorption calorimetry, X-ray phase analysis, atom-absorption spectrophotometry, gel chromatography, IR- photometry, mathematical processing of experimental data. Equipment - high-sensitive calorimeter Tiana-Calve Ms-70, spectrophotometer Specord IR-75, personal computer. Theoretical and practical results - the state of sodium humate in aqueous solution and on a solid surface is studied using various methods. It is shown that in aqueous solution at neutral pH values and low ionic strength this substance exists in an associated state. The values of molecular mass of the molecules in the preparation studied (Aldrich) are determined to be 1, 3 6 and 15 kDa. The sizes and molecular masses of sodium humate obtained in this way agree well with the data obtained by the chromatographic and electron microscopic measurements. In particular, the diameter of the smallest molecule study drug is 2.3 nm, and the largest - 9.0 nm. Novelty - the adsorption-based approach proposed in this study enables one to calculate the mass of humate molecule from its size or, vice versa, to calculate the size of the molecule from its mass. Efficiency of implementation - the proposed approach does not require expensive equipment, and will allow to determine the status of humic acids in aqueous solutions and on the surface of minerals, more reasonably choose methods of eliminating unwanted humic acid from water and humates use as modifiers of mineral adsorbents for the extraction of other pollutants from aqueous media. Field of use - environment protection.
