Objective: to determine the ways of social cohesion building, strengthening of socioeconomic security and stability among host communities and IDPs; minimizing negative effects of IDPs' social integration, particularly in the way of tension reduction in host communities; to determining appropriate measures for social integration in Ukraine in the context of the of the regions potential and the international lessons learned. Methods: analysis and synthesis, comparison, in-depth interview with the experts, secondary data analysis, cross-national comparisons, graphics, methods of statistical data analysis (cross-tabulation, correlation analysis, factor analysis, regression analysis), document analysis, and others. Scientific novelty: the models of IDPs' resettlement in rural areas were defined; it is argued that a key role of aspects defined in Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement in Ukraine were played both by the public and private sectors; both sectors helped to minimize IDPs' social tensions within group and with host community; it is empirically substantiated that IDPs' social exclusion is not limited by solely material deprivation, importance of human capital (health) as social exclusion's determinant was shown by the results of linear regression analysis; the bridging social capital appears to be a better factor of IDPs' local integration within host communities in Ukraine, while bonding social capital complicates it; empirically substantiated that the region of settlement and number of habitation replacement are the key determinants of success local integration, while age, education, marital status, number of children, and region of current residence do not relate to the process of IDPs' integration in host communities. Main scientific results: the functions and capabilities of public authorities, local governments, business organizations, private and public sectors, rural communities and IDPs, and their coordination efficiency in the processes of IDPs' adaptation and integration were reviewed; the social exclusion manifestations as the restrictions of access to social resources and structural positions which open such access were defined; the determinants of IDPs' successful local integration in host communities were empirically defined; the host community expectations regarding IDPs were delaminated; the IDPs' and host communities' values and ideological differences were analyzed; a set of practical recommendations on appropriate measures of social cohesion building and ways of minimizing the negative effects of IDPs' integration in the host communities were proposed. The survey results were used in the preparation of 3 scientific and advocacy sheets as well as recommendations of complex state program support and social adaptation of internally displaced persons during 2015-2016, they were sent to the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, Administration of the President of Ukraine and the State Agency of Ukraine for restoration of Donbass.
