Purpose: optimization of patients' radiation protection on the base of development of comprehensive quality assurance program of X-ray examinations in diagnostic radiology. Methods and equipment: ionization and thermoluminescence dosimety, methods of mathematical statistics; thermoluminescence unit PCL-3, universal dosimeter Piranha 657, ionization dosimeter DRC-01, universal test object TUR-01 for image quality control, phantom FLURO for image quality control in radiography and fluroscopy, mammography phantom СIRS. Theoretical and practical results: the information concerning the quality assurance programs and optimization of radiological examinations was systematized; the effect of fluence of diagnostic technique on the image quality and the doses of adult patients for radiographic, fluoroscopic and mammographic examinations was investigated. In according with developed protocols and methods the main radiological and technical parameters and the quality of images were studied for 19 radiographic, 13 fluoroscopic and 8 mammographic diagnostic units in 12 medical hospitals; the patients' doses for 11 types of radiography (1439 measurements), 4 types of fluoroscopic examinations (415 measurements) and the average glandular dose to the breast mammography examinations (422 measurements) were determinated. Novelty: firstly in Ukraine the forms for registration of data X-ray examinations with the purpose for the patient dose calculation during radiography, fluoroscopy and mammography studies were developed. The forms of protocols for quality control of physical and technical parameters and quality of imagies for X-ray diagnostic equipment were prepared. Effectiveness of results implementation: implementation of a quality control program in diagnostic radiology will allow to optimize of the X-ray examination quality, to reduce the population medical exposure and the risk of radiation-induced tumors.
