The types of alternative fuels and their chemmotological properties have been considered. There have been made the analysis of using of biofuels in diesel engines and fundamental problems of their work on these fuels. The issue of using natural gas as a motor fuel and peculiarities of viability of alternative fuels showed that evaluation criteria must include not only the amount of emissions of hazardous substances, but also their toxicity and hazard class. Such requirements are best satisfied criteria that are based on security category of the vehicle. The special features of using wheeled tractors as a technological transport have been elucidated. It has been developed general methodology of assessment of technological performance indicators of vehicles on alternative fuels due to criteria of technical adaptability, environmental safety and economic efficiency of operation.
