The structure and optical characteristics of the ceramics are investigated. The process of reducive annealing of the ceramics in the oxidizing atmosphere is optimized; the activation energy of the process of Yb2+ recharge in the ceramics YAG:Yb is found to be equal to 1.54 +- 0.46 eV.
