The historical comparative, systematic, structural, and functional methods were used. The electronic encyclopedias as a form of electronic media and their life cycle were analyzed. The distinguished structural features of contemporary encyclopedias were highlighted. The principles of the modern online encyclopedias' creation were formulated on the base of national and foreign experience of such projects' realization. The approaches for preparation of the electronic and printed versions of the GUE were proposed. The technological processes of the e-GUE's creation are outlined. The research work in 2015 was summarized in the analytical materials on methodological principles of the modern online encyclopedias' creation and preparation of the electronic (e-GUE) and printed versions of the Great Ukrainian Encyclopedia (GUE). The research results are presented in three reports (one report for each stage of the research) as well as in the Final Report. All findings have applied components; they can be used in different fields of arts and science, educational work, book publishing, and bibliographical studies. However, our institution does not elaborate the prototypes or design documentation.
