Objective: to improve medical and organizational support in preparing young men for military service. Methods: retrospective, sociological, expert opinions, and statistical. Theoretical and practical results: the health status of young men was appreciated considering the indices of the diseases prevalence and general pathological affection, structure of the pathologies, an increase rates in the dynamics (1990-2013) as well as territorial peculiarities. A primary pathology that limits the fitness of young men for the army service has been revealed; a contribution of organizational factors to the outcome of the sanitary measures has been shown, and the necessity to improve medical standards of treatment regarding certain diseases has been established. Sociological questionings have demonstrated some peculiarities in the way and quality of life of the young men, motivations for health promotion, and their attitude to military service. Some organizational and methodological measures to improve medical support of the youth contingent at the stages of preparing for military service have been proposed. Novelty: the study provides a complete assessment of the health status, the way and quality of life, related with health, motivation for its maintenance, and organization of medical support.
