Methods of prioritization ans quantitative account of the matter and energy fluxes were developed. Mechanisms of functioning of the river systems of various types were investigated at the level of separate hydrobionts' communities and at the level of ecosystem. New concept of the river systems functioning was proposed, which lies in the follows: gradual turn of conditions and biotic communities along the riverbed comprises spots and corridors of the lower order, combined by flows and the energy fluxes through both trophic interrelations and hydrobionts' migrations.
