There is offered the methodology for a quantitative analysis of ink solvents and ballpoint pen inks in the attributes of the documents, which differ depending on the number and type of volatile components, using the method of thermal desorption gas chromatography with mass spectrometry. It has been ascertained that for higher effectiveness of such examinations, the initial stage of the identification examinations on grouping and symptoms of artificial ageing of colorants in suspected attributes of the documents is required. Moreover, new possibilities have been presented for determining the age of the documents. This work demonstrates the basic possibility for determining the age of the studied strokes performed with ballpoint ink pens, in principle up to fourteen years.
