The research objectives are the reasonable selection and development of improved life components of the welded three-element truck for a railway freight car. The research methods are mathematical modeling and computer simulation, statistical dynamics, mathematical statistics, vibration theory. The results obtained. Designs of the three-element trucks with welded side frames and bolsters for operating on European railways and railways with 1520 mm gauge are analyzed. The main criteria are determined and a version of the equipment arrangement of the welded three-element truck with the improved reliability and extended life of structural elements for freight cars with 1520 mm gauge is selected using international and domestic experience. A structural version of an elastic adapter for an axle box and diagonal coupling between side frames is developed considering special features of the welded truck. Analytical and mathematical models of 3D oscillation of a gondola car with trucks with all-welded side frames and proposed new additional members are developed. Dynamic loads of side frames and dynamic performance of the freight car with trucks equipped with elastic adapters in axle boxes and diagonal coupling of different stiffness running at various speeds on straight and curved tracks are computed. Ranges of rational values for the adapter stiffness of proposed additional elements are selected. A tensely-deformed state of proposed additional truck coupling is studied and its strength under various operational conditions is assessed. The elastic axle box adapter design is improved subject to the results obtained. The research findings will be used to design domestic welded trucks for freight cars.
