The aim of study is examining the dogs and cats' sexual cycle characteristics and developing methods of reproduction control. The methods of study include clinical, laboratory and statistical methods. The examination shows that during the sexual cycle of female dogs and cats there is a sequential alternation of proliferative and secretory phases during which the endometrium is affected (to varying degrees) by steroid hormones. The breach of steroid hormones ratio has a significant influence on development of cystic hyperplasia of endometrium and pyometra. It was identified that the uncontrolled use of progestogens for therapeutic purposes (or as preventive measures) may cause sexual pathology and infertility of female dogs and cats. In order to reduce the rate of breeding females infertility caused by incorrect determination of the optimal time of mating, the application of computer monitoring of estrus in combination with the results of clinical and visual, cytological and hormonal studies is suggested. The effectiveness of stray dogs reproduction control programs can be improved if alternative non-surgical methods, such as synthetic progestogen administration, are used along with the primary method (castration).
