The most potent inhibitors of furin was shown to contain a hydrophobic benzene ring in the linker and a positively charged amidinohydrazone group in the meta-position to this linker. The effect of the environment components on furin was studied and found that in the presence of DMSO, acetone or ethanol the enzyme had the highest stability in water solution of DMSO.
