Thus, tonically firing SG neurons may represent a specific population of spinal neurons that carry out nociceptive inputs and contribute to spinal central sensitization. Our study suggests that extrasynaptic Ca2+-permeable AMPARs in the dorsal horn may be used as a new target in preventing and treating persistent inflammatory pain.
