The problem of automatic abstraction and generalization of sensor data obtained by intelligent machine in complex dynamic situations is addressed. The model of sensory information processing is formalized based on granular computing mechanism. The result of processing is a generalized granular layered structure which corresponds to the structure of abstract categories. This provides for sensor data interpretation based on the gained knowledge, which describes the current real-time situation in abstract categories. The models have the properties of flexibility and scalability. They have been tested in number of practical tasks in the field of intellectual systems: the task of forming situations prototypes, the task of automatic control of moving objects (mobile robots and game racing cars).
