The role of voltage-gated ion channels in high-frequency firing, generation and modulation of calcium signals was studied by usage of channel blockers. Voltage-gated Kv3 potassium channels provide high-frequency firing and modulate calcium signals induced by high-voltage activated calcium channels in the rat retinal ganglion cells.
