It was established that the nuclear fuel cycle can be divided into three main stages: the stage of uranium mining and production of uranium concentrate; stage of operation of nuclear reactors and the stage of radioactive waste treatment. Radon-222 is the critical isotopeof the first stage, radioactive isotopes of iodine, especially iodine-131 - of the second, and plutonium-239 - of the third. Accordingly, each stage of the nuclear fuel cycle is characterised by its own specific radiation protection. Taking into account the prospects of development of the nuclear fuel cycle in Ukraine,it is recommend to the State Committee on Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine to initiate the development and introduction of specialized applications to NRPU-97 and MSRU.
