REMOTE EVALUATION OF LEAF AREA INDEX OF FOREST PLANT COMMUNITIES IN ACCORDANCE TO THEIR SEASONAL DEVELOPMENT Aim of the research is to improve the determination reliability of leaf area index of forest plant communities at different stages of seasonal development through an integrated processing of time series of multispectral satellite images and ground measurements made during the growing season. The research is commissioned in accordance with order "On the continued funding of scientific and development projects of young scientists of NAS of Ukraine 2016", the Presidium of NAS of Ukraine, order of 02.03.2016, № 65. The report represents the main scientific results obtained within the framework of the project in 2015-2016. The bulk of the report consists of an introduction, six chapters and conclusions. The first chapter includes the analysis of the current state of seasonal dynamics' research of forest plant communities' leaf area index (LAI) according to data obtained by ground and remote methods. Features of contact (direct) and contactless (indirect) methods for determining LAI in the field have been considered. The second section describes the typical forest plant communities in Kiev Oblast. The third chapter is dedicated for field verification measurements of LAI of typical forest plant communities of Kiev Oblast during the growing season. The fourth section provides the research results of features of changes of different forest plant communities during the growing season using remote methods. The restoring of interconnections between spectral vegetation indices and LAI by results of remote observations and verification measurements at the testing areas have been described in the fifth chapter. The sixth chapter provides an assessment algorithms of leaf area index of forest plant communities using multispectral satellite imagery.
