As a result, we have observed their fragmentation into mono- and oligonucleosomes, which indicates that the programmed cell death participates in the pathogenesis, induced by these herbicides. The phytotoxic effect of the herbicides inhibiting acetolactate synthase may be mediated by the formation of the active oxygen forms.
