Methods: general empirical (statistical description) and theoretical (analysis, synthesis, generalization, economic modeling, induction, deduction, explanation, classification). Results and novelty: - The methodological and practical approaches countries on the application, implementation and adjustment of fiscal policies were investigated as a tool for achieving the goals of keeping the debt burden within safe limits; - The debt figures Ukraine in terms of institutional sectors, public and private sector were reinterpreted and calculated according to the methodology of the IMF and the EU; - The methodology of determining the level of consolidated debt of the general government, as well as of the public sector, including the debt of public corporations was developed and proposed. The novelty of the research is in the development of methodological approaches to assess fiscal sustainability and potential to limit the debt burden on its economically safe level. Keywords.
