Subject of research: basic, general and special patterns of formation and development of State and Law of Ukraine in the XX century. The purpose of the study was to assess the peculiarities of the formation and genesis of the Ukrainian State and Law in the XX century, including the disclosure of the legal system of Ukraine in the period of 1917-1921; organizational and legal principles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 1917-1996; state and legal views in the Ukrainian nationalist movement (in 1920-1950); political and legal aspects of European integration of Ukraine. Complex of general philosophical, general scientific and special-scientific methods are the methodological basis of research topics (scientific themes). The study was conducted based on the objectivity, historicism and dialectics. There were used such methods as historicism (chronology) axiological, comparative legal analysis and synthesis, systematic method of induction and deduction, and others. The main results of the research are the following: 1) There were established basic patterns of the development of the state and rights of Ukraine in the XX century; 2) there were revealed the major defects of the state development of the analyzed period; 3) there were singled out the lessons of the state- and law-making processes, and was indicated the need to take them into account in today's complicated process of building an independent Ukrainian state.
