Developed program of corrosion tests of samples with coatings which includes electrochemical testing, high temperature up to 1100 - 1200 °C corrosion in air and steam, thermal cyclic tests gas-pressure model fuel elements at temperatures of 600 - 900 °C and long term autoclave testing among coolant of VVER - 1000. Structure and mechanical properties of the coatings were investigated and fragments of tubes of fuel elements with coatings were tested in accident conditions. All coatings have a higher hardness, Young's modulus and strength than zirconium alloy Zr-1Nb, especially nitride coatings. The most resistance to high temperature (1100 °C) corrosion in the air and steam, as well as to thermal cycling (1020 °C) demonstrate chrome and metal coating based on chromium.
