Physical and mathematical models of the novel slow-wave systems for terahertz electronic devices on the basis of periodicity defects are developed. Conditions of the efficiency enhancement in the beam-wave system with photonic crystal slow-wave systems are defined. Physical reasons of the Josephson plasma waves realization that may be used for terahertz sources developing are established.
