Purpose of the work - development of high-strength glass-ceramic compositions of composite materials - elements of body armour. Methods of the research - modern materials science research methods: X-ray, petrographic, differential thermal, electron microscopy, infrared, X-ray analysis, as well as standard methods for determining the physico-chemical properties of the glass-ceramic materials. The analytical review of the scientific-technical and patent literature on the principles of creation of protective structures for local and individual armours was given in the work. The current state of the strong armor materials development and their functionality at the impact of submunitions were presented. The relevance, as well as scientific and practical importance of the issues are the subject of research were grounded, the aim and the way to achieve it were formulated. The direction and methods of research were chosen. Parameters of the glass-ceramic armour obtaining on the basis of lithiumaluminosilicate system that include melting, forming and heat treatment were developed. The conditions of the two-stage low-temperature heat treatment were established. The glass-ceramic material with high performance properties at simultaneously low-density value by slip casting technology was obtained. The developed material can successfully serve as a blunt and the buffer layer composed of armor elements of the composition ( "Kevlar - alumina ceramic - glass-ceramic material - titanium alloy - Kevlar") at its reduced weight and cost values.
