Objective: to substantiate and develop measures to improve the agronomic performance of seed yield of perennial grasses and forage crops of green fodder in the main and intermediate crops under steppes of Ukraine. Research methods: visual - to determine the phenological phases of plant growth and development of fodder crops; measurement and weight - to determine the height and stand density of plants, leaf surface area, dry matter content, structure of crop plants forage crops. Creating a strong forage base through the use of high energy and high protein feed and scientifically based system of animal nutrition is the basis of high productivity livestock. Perennial grasses and legumes and annual herbage mixture is an important factor in saving material and technical means. They allow no additional cost to provide high productivity and more fully realize the potential biological agrophytocenoses. A reliable by reducing energy consumption, environmental pollution, saving costly fertilizers and environmentally friendly feed reception is maximum utilization of symbiotic nitrogen fixation potential in cultures of seed mixture. Nitrogen fixation as perennial and annual herbage depends on the proportion of legumes in them.
