The conditions, which provide maximum beam current in the probe of a fixed size is obtained. A theoretical foundations of the high voltage scanning ion microscope are created. The analysis of the factors that hinder the resolution improvement of nuclear microprobe setup with separated probe-forming systems is carried out. For these systems practical recommendations on the choice of geometry and alignment are worked out. The ion-optical properties of new separated probe-forming system based on five magnetic quadrupole lenses with four independent power supplies are studied. A new method for precision alignment of three magnetic quadrupole lenses in integrated module is developed. Analysis of beam formation in a single ions mode is carried out.
