We want to improve existing tools and knowledge about the connection of different scales that is important to describe the friction, particularly at the onset of sliding. Objects of research: steel bead / glass, PDMS / glass. Tribology moved forward in understanding and macroscopic friction at the atomic scale in the past decade. Development of new experimental tools, such STM and AFM to monitor the quality of the frictional interface with great accuracy. In addition, the importance of research of friction as a whole, there are some specific physical problems whose solution is based on point contact. Experiments on the scale of single contact may be quite different than in volume, and depends on many factors such as load, speed slide and the previous history of the system. Studies point of contact friction experimentally implemented using magnetic levitation trybometra (MLT). Tribology is advanced in understanding friction at the macroscopic and the atomic scale in the past decade. The development of new experimental tools such STM and AFM allow to control the quality of frictional interface with great accuracy. Besides the great importance of friction investigations in general, there are some peculiar physical problems the solution of which is based on a point-contact. Experiments at the scale of single contact may be completely different from that in the bulk, and depend on many factors such as load, sliding velocity, and the previous history of the system. The investigation of point-contact friction was experimentally realized by magnetic levitation tribometer (MLT). Test measurements were carried with metal ball on glass plate for different loads. Moment of inertia of pendulum J was empirically determined for different positions of stands with magnets / loads. Thus, an effective impact of magnetic field Jeff was calculated. Identifying the damping parameter µ of oscillatory system was realized by the energy decay curve analysis. Methodology appears to be powerful for identifying damping parameters of tribological pair PDMS/glass at very low loads. Theoretically investigated intermittent and smooth modes of sliding for multicontact interface friction within earthquake model and made generalizations about behavior of monocontact. These results make possible to investigate the behavior of organic mono layers in the future.
