The reorientation testing of hydrides in claddings under pressure 3, 4 and 5 MPa under conditions simulating the reloading of spent nuclear fuel with the heating level up to 410 °C (mode 1) were carried out. The metallographic tests of claddings were carried out before and after tests on reorientation of hydrides under mode 1. Metallographic pictures of the structure allowed to reveal hydrides orientation factor in claddings of dummy fuel rods that were tested under mode 1. Samples were cut out from hydrogenized Zr-1% Nb claddings of dummy rods under internal pressure (3, 4 and5 MPa) that were tested on hydride reorientation. These samples were mechanically tested at temperatures 20, 180 and 350 °C. It was established that at the hydrogen concentration less than 150 ppm tests on hydride reorientation (P(293K) = 3, 4 and 5 MPa) do not result in significant changes in hydride reorientation factor which does not exceed 0.17. With increasing of hydrogen content in claddings, the factor increases sharply to 0.52, that can result in hydrogen embrittlement. With increasing hydrogen content over 300 ppm hydrides orientation factor increases to 0.82, that is dangerous from the point of view of hydrogen embrittlement and subsequent damage of fuel rod claddings.
