Purpose - improving the tribological characteristics of the alloyed white cast irons and ledeburite steels grade by developing efficient processes and surface strengthening treatment using plasma jet. Research methods: optical and scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray, dilatometer; determination of microhardness; wear tests; mathematical statistics and factorial design. The influence of previous regimes of preliminary bulk- and surface plasma treatments on microstructure, microhardness and wear resistance of white Cr-Mn (Ni) cast irons with a high chromium content (4,5-15%) and vanadium (5.10%) and ledeburytnyh steel alloying system Cr-Mn-Si-V-Mo is stidied in the work. It is shown that in most cases the highest result achieved in the overall treatment consisting of plasma treatment with surface melting and plasma bulk post-heat teatment. Applying constant plasma jet or pulse-plasma treatment in conjunction with post-plasma heat treatment enhances abrasive wear resistance at 20-55% and erosion resistance - by 29-36%.
