The Landau concept of an effective mass of nucleon was used. This approach ensured the correct description of the contribution of the states in continuum in realistic finite depth potentials. It is shown, that the states in continuum do not influence much the thermodynamical calculations at low enough (less then 1 MeV), but change considerably the results at high temperatures. The shape and excitation energy of nucleus U-236 at the scission point as function of the mass asymmetry of fission fragments is calculated and the multiplicity of prompt neutrons that accompany the fission of U-236 is estimated. In the deformation energy of the nucleus U-236 the three minima were found that correspond to the standard, super-short and super-long fission valleys. In this approach such details of experimental data as the position of the maxima in the mass distribution of fission fragments, the value and the dependence of kinetic energy of fission fragments on their mass, the total excitation energy of fission fragments are well described.
