The results of geological-prospecting works for "shale" gas in the Baltic basin and Lublin depression of Poland, which is adjacent to the prospective Volyn-Podillya oil and gas-bearing region of Ukraine, are shown. The stratigraphic, lithological, structural characteristics of Silurian deposits of Volyn-Podillya, prospective for "shale" gas, are presented, the data on physical properties of rocks, dispersed organic matter content and the extent of its catagenetic transformation are given. The comparative analysis of the above mentioned parameters on the Polish and Ukrainian territories is made. The methodic approach to "shale" gas resources estimate by the volumetric-genetic method is substantiated, the algorithm of works with determination of geological and recoverable "shale" gas resources is shown.
