There has been found interrelations between structural changes in the brain and cognitive functions of patients with diabetes, including those between the speed of information processing and overall brain volume and white matter hyperintensity as well as between the volume of white matter and memory capacity and functioning. The observed association may have an impact on the development of strategies for the prevention and treatment of cognitive impairment in patients with diabetes. The study of the prevalence of various forms of diabetic neuropathy and mechanisms of formation and impact of various risk factors on the development of diabetic neuropathy can allow detecting these complications at the clinical level and carrying out measures for complications prevention.
