The purpose of the work is to develop scientific and technological bases for obtaining highly active metal oxide nanosystems, including photocatalytic, for the environmentally safe destruction of organic compounds contained in streams of different genesis. The research method is theoretical analysis of modern literary sources and statistical analysis of physico-chemical methods of analysis (spectroscopic, spectrophotometric, diffraction, electron microscopy and sorption-catalytic and magnetic methods of research, etc.). A critical review was conducted on the feasibility of using photocatalysts for the destruction of organic compounds in aqueous media, and the choice of metal oxide systems and approaches to their synthesis, as well as ways to increase their photocatalytic activity, was discussed. The influence of conditions of synthesis of catalytic systems on the basis of nanosized metal oxides on their physical and chemical properties was investigated. The basic parameters of the synthesis of catalysts-sorbents are determined and the interconnection of the physico-chemical characteristics of the obtained catalytic systems with their sorption-photocatalytic activity is established. The choice of the dopant and the influence of the method of administration and quantity on the physico-chemical and photocatalytic properties of the catalysts have been substantiated.
