Sedimentary complexes such as: the Cretaceous, Paleogene, Neogene and Pliocene-Quaternary, were allocated and characterized. The presence and periodicity of black shale sedimentation in the Black Sea, upwelling, and volcanic specific facies were determined. The main geoecoforming factors were identified; marine geo-ecological systems were classified and practical recommendations on a range of administrative, legal and economic measures to solve specific problems for their protection were given. Paleogeographic and facies situation of the late Quaternary in different parts of the waters areas were reconstructed, the age, sources of mobilization and ways of transportation of redeposited component in the sediments were defined; the age of accumulation of Quaternary sediments within the northwestern shelf of the Black Sea were determined. The important link between meteorological and hydrological conditions and the intensity of distribution of the sediment-forming substance in natural environments with different anthropogenic load (the southern coast of the Crimea and in the Zaporozhye region) were revealed. The practical significances of the present work are: geo-ecological assessment of formation of modern ecosystems of shelf zones; pollution forecasting; and presenting a number of proposals for improving of the ecological state of the investigated region.
