Aim: : the establishment of principal direction of the use the products of the processing of the red mud in the reactant materials for sewage treatment on the basis of a comprehensive analysis of red mud and its products with using of X-ray diffraction and elemental energodisperse analysis. Methods: X-ray and energodisperse elemental analysis, acid treatment, thermal treatment of the samples, sorption, modification of activated carbon (AC). The main results: it is established that the liquid phase after acid neutralization of red mud contains solutions of salts of iron (III) and aluminum which represent a composite coagulant, the firm phase has sorption properties and ability to ion-exchange reactions, acid solution can be used for modification of AC for giving of properties to him, necessary for increase in efficiency of sewage treatment.
