Goal is to ascertain relationships of NCM formation during alkali activation of brown coal and to determine their electrochemical properties. Research methods: thermogravimetry, x-ray diffraction method, NMR-, IR-spectroscopy, low temperature (77 К) adsorption of nitrogen, voltamperometry. It was developed new method of coal activation into NCM that combines heat shock and isothermic retention. This method being acceptable for obtaining of electrode materials (EM) for supercapacitors with organic electrolite. Using heat shock (800°С) instead the thermoprogrammed slow heating allows to reduce activator (КОН) amounts and to obtain NCM with surface area 1700-2000 m2/g and pore volume up to 1.0 cm3/g at relatively low KOH/coal ratios - 0.7-1.0 g/g. By x-ray diffraction method and NMR there were evaluated changes of spatial structure and paramagnetic characteristics of brown coal under alkali cations variation MOH (M=Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs) and alkali/coal ratio (0,2-1,0 g/g). By derivatography there were determined rates of thermolysys of alkali impregnated coal as well as were evaluated change of thermolysis character. Characteristics of EM samples were studied. It was stated that brown coals EM show capacity up to 100 F/g, capacity retention ~70 % (at current density 10 А/g) and by their properties they are close to industrial EM.
