Doping TiO2 by nitrogen leads to the change of the band gap value by N sublevel formation under the valence band. Morphology of the surface also plays a crucial role decreasing the recombination rate of the electrons and holes. Heating temperature influences not only on the morphology of the surface, but also on the keeping of nitrogen in the structure of ТіО2. It was obtained the photocatalytically active materials under both UV and visible light: nitrogen doped 10% ZrO2/TiO2 and 2,5/5% mFe/TiO2, synthesized by Impulse Laser Deposition method ; Fe/TiO2, treated at 450 оС, synthesized by sol-gel method. The highest photocatalytic activity in the process of dichromate ions reduction was noted for 10% ZrO2/TiO2, synthesized by Impulse Laser Deposition method in N2:CH4=5:1 atmosphere at 100 Pa and 450 C while nitrogen and iron doped titania films treated at 450C were the most promised in the case of sol-gel method. Due to the high photocatalytic activity of these films, it can be recommended for their application under solar light. It is experimentally proved that the adsorption of molecules/ions of the pollutant on the surface is the important condition for the effective photocatalytic reactions; the photocatalytic transformation does take place onto the film surface .
