The margins of the light sensitivity areas were determined for each dye and their redox potentials were calculated for the excited states in order to evaluate efficiency of polymethines as potential sensitizers. A thermodynamic analysis of some energy parameters of the synthesized nanostructures has been performed using their spectral and electrochemical characteristics. Further, these results were used to develop new physico-chemical approaches to design of new redox systems with preplanned photocatalytic activity levels and extended light sensitivity ranges. Some new highly effective light conversion redox systems have been constructed using the synthesized heterostructures and then their photoelectric efficiency was extensively tested on the original prototype of the photoelectrochemical solar cell (Graetzel cell). Finally, some optimization steps were proposed for the photoelectrochemical cell manufacturing methods and new effective Graetzel solar energy transformers were obtained.
