They have developed surface (363-533 m2/g) sorption capacity (0.40-0.66 cm3/g), and the content of phosphonic groups 1.0-3.0 mmol/g. As relatively cheap sodium metasilicate was used as a source of silica, such materials can be competitive on an industrial scale. According to TEM, the primary particles of polysiloxane and polysilsesquioxane xerogels with 3-aminopropyl groups are nearly spherical, 5-10 nm in size, and form agglomerates.
