Registration Date 10-04-2017 Organization Institute of Surface Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 A series of anticorrosion MoO3/SiO2 and MoO3/Al2O3 pigments (concentration 5, 10, 15, 25 and 40 wt.% Mo) with "core-shell" structure were synthesised by heat treatment of the mixture of pyrogenic silica SiO2 and alumina Al2O3 with dispersed (NH4)6Mo7O24·4H2O. Anticorrosion coatings on the surface of aluminium 3003 H14 alloy were created by applying a 5% alcohol polyvinylbutyral composition with the synthesized pigments. The tests at 40 ° C and 80% relative humidity showed that MoO3/SiO2 and MoO3/Al2O3 pigments exhibited anticorrosion effect. The quantum chemical modelling reveals that the energy of hydrolysis of molybdena structures on SiO2 surface of is -40.3 kJ/mol and on Al2O3 surface is -38.5 kJ/mol whose negative value at 25 °C indicates the possibility of releasing of MoO42- anions which provide the corrosion protection of aluminium in operation at elevated atmospheric humidity.
