The work is the first in the system of expert institutions of Ukraine and it is executed based on the experience of art experts from Kharkiv and Kyiv Forensic Institutes and aimed to provide practical assistance to forensic experts and employees of law enforcement bodies. Due to the fact that the forensic examination on works of arts is currently in a state of formation and development, there is no common approaches to address certain issues related, on the one hand, to the theory and general methodology of art studies, on the other hand - to using expert technology in solving forensic tasks on works of arts, namely the general theoretical and methodological base of the main areas of forensic art research and solutions to issues raised before the experts.
